Ah, I have succeeded! Yay! I wiped it down again with the mineral spirits, then applied Butcher's wax, waited about 7 minutes and buffed. After an hour, I applied another coat, waited and buffed. Perfect! Both the cocobolo and african blackwood retained their color and there's no sign of oil coming...

OK, well, I removed the poly, very easily, with mineral spirits. Here's a picture of it now. Before starting to finish it, I sanded the piece with a 320 sanding mop which produced an unbelievably smooth surface. If it weren't for the shiney residue from the poly in the corners, I would leave it as...

Thanks! But, after I dry/remove the oil from the wood, what is the best finish?

Emergency with Cocobolo
I'm hoping someone will be able to help me or at least direct me in the right step. Last week, I made a Christmas gift for my brother out of cocobolo and african blackwood. I sanded the pieces and glued them together, then applied a coat of wipe on poly. After 24 hours, the finish finally felt dry...

Oh gosh, it sounds terrible! I like your photo though. I missed the thread of when you got your new saw. I had a saw that had the same symptoms, i.e. front to back motion as well as side to side motion of the blade. It turned out the saw was a reject and I got another which had no movement like...

Way to go, Bill! I try to keep two years of wood on hand too since it takes that long to be "burnable". I've got the kids trained on how to keep the woodstove going day and night non-stop and I agree that when it gets too hot inside, the cold, fresh air is a pleasant treat in the middle...

I got an estimate today for the replacement of the windshield....$400 plus $45 for a rental since the car won't be done for 24 hours...OUCH!

Ha! That's a good one...hope they offered help. Nope! I slammed on my brakes, turned around and followed them in order to get their tag number. I followed them doing 70 in a 45 zone until they pulled into a driveway. When I got out, they asked me what I wanted. So, instead of accusing them, I...

Stop litter before it stops you!
Here's an example of what can happen when you throw trash out your car window while driving. When I was passing someone going the opposite direction, they threw a container with liquid out their window, and the pictures below are the result. Not good. I hope this never happens to any of you.

Did you put the box together and glue it yet? I would have sanded everything before even starting the project. I don't know anything that is going to sand into the crevices without gouging the wood. Sorry.

I'm so glad I could help! On my saw, the mid-range is useless because the whole saw vibrates like crazy which makes it difficult sometimes because depending on the wood and pattern, sometimes I need that mid-range speed, but I always opt for the faster than slower to get by. Anything is better than...

Where is your speed set? On my DeWalt, it frantically vibrates between 3-5, but is as smooth as can be either below that or above it. Try different speeds and see if it does have something to do with that mid-range speed. If so, then your problem is solved.
