Congrats on the saw, as soon as you get some of the bugs ironed out and get to sawing you'll love it. I know my wife loves hers.

while I'm not an expert on the 788s yet I've learned alot about them in the past week trying to get my wifes machine working. The blade must be moving straight up and down to get a decent cut, this doesn't mean the table needs to be at a right angle to the blade to begin with. On the drive motor there...Leave a comment:

Well I did a little tweaking this morning and was able to get things moved about .030 so the wife could use it a little today without asking me to come fix it every half hour while I'm trying to sleep. Well one problem down one to go. Last night at work I made some new thumb screws and they are sweet. I took some aluminum stock, knurled it, and press fit a M6x1.0 cap screw through it and surface ground the end that contacts the blade flat, it works a heck of a lot better than standard cap screws and...Leave a comment:

Wow how they ever let that one pass QC I wouldn't know. Thats not exactly my problem. I went and checked the tapped holes to the blade cutout with a pair of calipers and they are about .005 off. With as loose as the machine is that shouldn't be the problem. Every thing else seems to be good, it just...Leave a comment:

DeWalt 788 Problems
The new saw arrived today and I just had to get it set up eventhough I should have been sleeping (graveyard shift stinks). First the wingnut screws for the blade clamp were missing, but not a big deal, went to the hardware store and picked up some M6x1.0 cap screws and ground the ends flat. I'll make... -

The company was just starting out when I was in school for machining. My understanding was that they went to a lot of the table saw manufactures and tried to get them to offer it as an add on. The name is actually a two way street. Number 1 is that I love to work with wood, and number 2 is that my wifes last name used to be Wood. She's one of the main reasons I'm here.
