Neal,
Sorry - I should have explained a bit better. The homepage works OK, but when I try to browse the patterns, I get the message saying the shop is temporarily closed. It has been like it for a couple of weeks.
Thanks for taking the trouble to try it for me though!...

3-D Wood Art
I saw a pattern advertised in a back issue of the magazine from a company called 3-D Wood Art.
Website here - www.3dwoodart.com
I really liked the pattern, and would like to order it from the company, but their website seems to be down (I keep getting a message saying...

It's not just northerners that got confused by that one!! On my first visit to the Florida Keys I was horrified to be told that I was eating dolphin!!! The waitress actually went to get a picture to show me, as apparently it was a common misunderstanding!!
Is that fish also called...

Rolf,
That is an absolutely stunning piece. FWIW I think the background is perfect as it is. The Cardinal seems to "pop" - I don't think that would be the case if you darkened the background down.

Absolutely stunning!
One of the nicest pieces I have ever seen - very lifelike indeed.
I stand in awe!

Jerry,
I think that the backer looks fine either way. On mine I stained the backer a very deep blue, and then sprayed it with a very light coat of glitter paint - this gave a very effective impression of a clear starlit sky.
I was very pleased with the way the leaves came...

Gill,
The thanks are all due to you - without your help, encouragement and advice I probably wouldn't even have a scrollsaw!
I have to say that the learning curve is somewhat shorter than for turning - thank goodness!
I am off skiing for two weeks from Sunday,...

Thanks for the kind comments guys!
I swear that the "Let It Snow" pattern was the first thing I cut with my new saw. The pattern was one I made myself using the Word Art function in Microsoft's Word. I must admit that I did make a few practice cuts in the waste though!...

Pictures of my first attempts at Scrollsawing
Here at some pictures of my first attempts at using a scroll saw.
On the whole, I am very pleased with the way they came out.
A huge thank you to everyone on this forum who helped me out along the way with advice and encouragement - especially Gill!

Adam,
Sorry for the delay in posting - only just noticed this thread.
I have an AWSF18, and am very happy with it. I got the stand from Axminster as well - it isn't really big enough for the saw, but I got round that by bolting a paving slab to the top of the stand, and...

Cathy,
Sorry for the delay in replying - I only just noticed your question.
Sometimes they are round, other times I just take a section of branch wood and part it off into thin slices (kind of like a salami), then the coaster ends up whatever shape the branch was - this...

I took out a subscription just after Christmas, but I haven't received a magazine yet.
I am very tempted to have a try at the wooden gear clock when the magazine does arrive.

Gary
