In one of my wood Carving Magazines the author used a two part wood bleach on a Santa and then painted the flesh color and trim. It Came out real nice. I suspect it would work for clouds etc if you did not want paint.

In the small town I live they will order 5'x5' sheets of balticbirch ply for me. I did have a problem once when I was told that he had been in the hardware business for twenty years and all Ply came in 4'x8' sheets. ( He looked like he was in his late twenties) lol

I did the Tiger Butterfly a few years ago and used MDF for the backing. I ended up painting the MDF and in my opinion I liked it better than the plywood and I am not a good painter. No chips, No swelling I may have been lucky.

I have not done it yet but I read this. Rout with a 3/4 inch router bit down the center of a board. Scroll saw through the center of the cut . Then cut your 45 degree angles at the desired length and glue together. It should give you 3/8th inch space on each side for the picture. Hope this helps.

I think I made a mistake. My name is Robert Cahill and I normally am on the sister site where I use my real name. Irish was all ready taken over there. I know Laura Irish has a wonderful site with many patterns and this pattern is hers. I woke up last night remembering I used Irish here and I may have...

Rolf, Just went through your thread and found it very interesting. I really like the way yours looks but don't think I want to go through all that for one stand at this time. Thanks for the thread I enjoyed reading it. I was really impressed I could see the top of your work bench unlike mine
