Mr Scrappile i'm sure it will work fine with poplar and as far as the frame and portrait all in one piece I just thought why make a frame separate if you make the piece 1 1/2 " wider and longer to allow for a routered edge. Its 4 pieces of cherry glued together to get the size I wanted. Can't wait...

Thanks again for the compliments. Ya she was very impressed with the piece and it will fit well in her room with all her other African pieces of art . The wood is 3/8 " to 1/2 ". and I don't keep track of hours but I try to limit myself to 5 hrs max a day. Got a good saw and I enjoy the challenge...

Thanks for all the feedback I really appreciate the compliments. the framing idea seemed the logical choice by using a larger piece of wood and have the workpiece and frame as one. I tried this on the lynx I did a while back and I liked the outcome so im sticking with it instead of making a seperate...

  • Wow man thanks for the feedback that saves me a lot of money looking for wider lumber black cherry here we come love cutting the stuff but its hard on the blades. #3&5 UR's is what I mostly use can't seem to have much use for the spirals only in certain areas but thats my preference. Packing tape...

  • laminated wood for fretwork cutting

have lots of hardwood but some of the fretwork patterns are too large for what I have. Has anyone had any success laminating wood together and cut a fretwork pattern from it without any problems. I like to keep my thickness at 1/2" I find that hardwood holds up much better on intricate cutting....
