I'm definetly intrigued this is a great debate..
My concerns would be if the technique was possible is.
1. Life of the template, as the blade will surely either wear and rub it, or even cut into it sometimes.
From my own thoughts a best use for a metal template...

Todd,
You'll be missed buddy. But I understand from where you speak. As a fellow ex-infantryman myself, I know from where you speak. So serve proud, serve hard but serve to stay alive..

Pic of my shop? What shop? With no Garage and the fact my wife won't let me make sawdust indoors...I've had to transform my Garden Shed into my shop...It's gonna be chilly this winter.

Drilling Fretwork
Hey Evryone,
Ok let me first say I do not own a drill press. I do however have a Dremel and have been using the flex shaft attachment to do my drilling. I like it for 1 main reason, I can drill wherever I want on a piece, with no restriction to a drill presses table size..

Yeah I'm a Bottom Feeder too. Something about having everything so handy on the top...i.e blade clamp, tension etc...that I just like it..

Easy Lift...for the Dewalt
Hey Evryone,
Well I got my easy lift system accessory for the Dewalt the other day and took some time today to install it. My first comment is wow this is nice.
Well not essential it is nice to simply left the top arm, have it stay in place while doing fretwork. Just wondering...

Gary,
Wondering what dimensions you cut your portraits out at. I recntly got the civil war pattern book of yours however you make no mention of wood size. I would like to start a few of these and mat them in an 11x14 frame.
