I use Klingspor paper and run at about 2200. Use a light hand or you will launch your piece into outer space.

I didn't pay more than $30 for mine some years ago and it works fine. I use it mostly for fine work. If you get one, be sure it is flourescent as it will keep your hands from getting sunburned I mean light burned.

Mind you I have not tried this, but the blackest black I can get is with black leather dye. Like I said, never tried it on MDF and it has no real sheen. You would have to finish it with lacquer or poly. I think it would be worth the effort to see if that is what you are looking for.

Sue, you are confusing me. I finished the Easter Cross and the Christmas cross was next on my list. I had planned the light over dark, but I sure like how you reversed that. Will have to stack and try one of each, or may be two. I did the Easter cross by stacking BB and oak ply. Just used oil on the...

Joe Pack,
I appreciated your comments on Resp-o-rater. I too use a DustBGone and now it does not filter the fine dust, but it is the only one for me that is comfortable, no fog, and one that I will use. The R_O-R doesn't look that comfortable but I will take your word for it and put it on my want...

I just finished Sue's Easter cross and glued it to a backer. I used Aileene's Tacky Spray Glue. This is the first time I have used it and it sticks like crazy. Unless something unforeseen happens, it will be my glue of choice for attaching frets to backing. Got it at Michael's.

I have a small drill press but it didn't have enough quill movement for some of the projects I was doing. I decided I would get a floor model and get rid of the smaller one. The DP I selected was the Harbor Freight (around 160, I think). It has served me very well. I did not sell the small one and am...

I received my Feb/Mar issue of American Woodworker today. It has an excellent article on on using the router to make picture frame molding. It includes good pictures, which bits to use, and routing sequence. There are instructions for 12 different frames. It was just what I was looking for as I am poor...

I have the Jet DC-650. My shop has to fit in one side of a two-car garage so everything has to be on casters. It would be nice to have a little more oomph but it has been adequate for my needs. I only need to hook up one tool at a time and use it for table saw, planer, disc sander, scrollsaw (sorta...

Thanks for all the kind words. I will pass that on to our members. I wouldn't be surprised if one or two haven't already started for next year. We did have a Scrooge as well. He brought in some toys and said he doesn't like the fact we will have a Christmas party next month and the emphasis on toys....

I have used the microfiber cloth. It picks up dust well but also catches on the grain of some woods. The wood must be smooth to avoid the cathces.

Christmas Toys - Update
Thanks for the kind words about our club's project. There was a request for info on the entire club, so here it is. We set a new record this year - 2336! The toys were distributed to 13 organizations here in town. The toys always get rave reviews from the orgs. It is eye opening to hear how many people...
