    Happy retirement. I'm sure you'll enjoy it although the first few months might not be all that you hoped for.

    Who said I was sane in the first place? I'm throwing myself more into piano practice and mastering my Affinity Photo/Designer/Publisher software suite. When the weather warms up I intend to get back into scrollsawing.

    I think I've got a skipping (jump?) rope in the dark recesses of a...

    Hubby and I have been learning to play the piano for the last couple of years. We thought it would exercise our brains as we enter old age. Of course, the lessons have had to be cancelled but our teacher has a Zoom account (she uses it for her day job) so last Monday we had our first lesson by video...

    Tonight Boris Johnson effectively locked down the whole UK by pronouncing the following:

    People will be allowed to leave home only for the following reasons:
    • shopping for necessities, as infrequently as possible;
    • one form of exercise a day, such as running or cycling, alone or with

    Here's my understanding of the toilet paper thing. Last year it looked as if the UK was going to leave the EU without any form of agreement. That meant a number of items we imported from the EU could have been in short supply, including toilet paper since practically all the UKs toilet paper comes...

    Thank you all for some great suggestions which I'll investigate in the New Year.

    Rolf, I now live on the east coast of Lincolnshire just north of Boston and it's wonderful here (apart from the lack of decent timber merchants). Antiques are hard to come by, primarily because a small, historic...

    It tends to be BBC Radio 5 or my local station, BBC Radio Lincolnshire. Sometimes BBC Radio 4.

    As I said, the wood that's available to me is of such poor quality that I'm looking for a different material altogether. I'd rather avoid metal but if anyone knows of (for instance) a resin or a plastic which can be compound cut, I'd appreciate your suggestions.

    I appreciate the suggestions but I'm looking for an alternative to wood, one that is capable of supporting fine bridges.

    Material For Compound Cutting

    I live in an area of Britain without ready access to decent quality wood. Most of my scrolling involves compound cutting. Can anyone suggest an alternative material which could be compound cut?
