..the Saman's dyes are great to have around..they have a "Mauve" that if used on pine comes out looking like purpleheart wood..and a "Lime" that adds a wonderful highlight to anything you...

well ..I don't do intarsia..I tried when I first got a scrollsaw about 5 years ago..I was terrible at it!!! So, luckily I found segmentation before I threw the saw out the window..maybe it's time for me to give it a try again..sooo..count me in tooo!! Sounds like a fun adventure

For a Marbled effect I like to use acrylic paint and a feather to do the veining..light color typically and a bit of a swirl as you go across or down a piece...and never less then 3 different colors.. finishing with a lacquer based spray..multiple coats..

Or perhaps you could use a bee's wax finish..it would give the gown a soft satin look and can be buffed to a higher sheen in areas to draw the focus a bit..and as Mick indicated..glue it up first will help in that the glue between pieces won't hold as tightly if oil is present..most hardware and kitchen...

Thank you all!!I had a great b-day, the kids kept asking me if I felt any older..Toni kept calling me 'old lady' and I see she's brought that same message here LOL..I prefer to consider myself 'well travelled', or 'experienced' rather than older..ahhh it's fun and I think I'll just keep on celebrating!!...

Jeff.. Toni left out the details in the receipe book..says they're ancient family secrets LOL.. and I think Theresa would have shot the designer if we added the names of the potions..which no doubt would have sounded much like many of our creatures..

hi..as Theresa indicated, Toni and I use leather dyes for many of our projects..because they are alcohol based the concern about the grain raising doesn't come into play..I tend to mix and match ..sanding off some of the color to then add a "highlighting" or lighter color.. using more leather...
