This is the one I was thinking of - thank you. I didn't have the magazine, so ended up making my own pattern....

Michigan wood yard going out of business
Anyone in Michigan - Rare Earth Hardwoods in Traverse City is selling everything - wood, fixtures, computers etc. Not sure what they have left, a couple weeks ago I was there and got 30% off. They will have an auction Aug. 19 for what ever is left.

Use the water based product. Brush on will work fine (I use it all the time on the painted ornaments I make.) If you use a spray instead, make sure you check the directions and pay attention to the temperature when you use it - oh, and the humidity. I ruined a painted piece (Black cat) when I sprayed...

guitars?
Some years ago there was an intarsia pattern of a group of guitars in a circle - anyone know which issue it was in? I actually only need 1 guitar, so if that pattern isn't available, does anyone know of a single guitar?

Cutting something that size had to be hard! did you use a backer of some sort?
I bought a sheet of thin copper to cut up for fins for some fish lure ornaments I carved - who knew I could have just pounded a penny flat!

Check with your home-owners insurance company. They may be able to offer you the coverage you are looking for as a rider on the insurance you have.

I solve that problem by making one copy of the pattern and using just that to cut from. I don't lay out individual pieces onto the wood -

Speaking from previous experience - go with the 5 minute epoxy on the magnets. Super glue will work for a while - but the ones I made, the magnets were falling off a year later.

SSWC already has a page on Facebook. Those of us who use Facebook enjoy seeing their posts there too. My only thought on th mock-up is that I am glad I no longer have dial-up internet (although mine does get about that slow at times). I'm not a fan of the scrolling photos.

I have wondered about Seyit many times and hoped he was OK. Thank you Mike for getting a hold of him, and for passing along his message. I've always liked his patterns and his work - he's a great artist. Hopefully he will be able to get into the woodshop again soon.

Stephen - take a good quality photo of some of your work. Decide which one you want on your card. Keep the background CLEAN and CLEAR. I have a set of cards with a wood pattern on the background - you can't read my information on it.
Then - take your photo to a site like Vistaprint (There...

I have used acrylic (craft) paint over stain before. I did NOT put shellac over the stain first - I wouldn't recommend that actually. But I would shellac after the painting is done and dry.
As long as you are not using white paint over a dark stain you should be fine. And let the stain...
