Made this for my dad, birch plywood. I was desperate to finish by Christmas, so I owe my wife big for letting me out of doing dishes for that push at the end.
The ground/hill was fun to cut. I mostly free-handed it to save time (again, frantic to finish by Christmas), using the pattern...

Ha, I just made one of those too! Deer Christmas ornament - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Photo Gallery. I broke one of the branches on the left tree cleaning off the fuzz, but my wife said it's a tree, it's supposed to be weird-shaped. Character!

Signing projects
Wondering how folks sign their work...sharpie, burn it, carve it, etc.? I read somewhere about someone using a custom stamp. I engraved the first couple with my Dremel, but not sure I like that method.Last edited by lloydf; 11-15-2011, 07:31 AM.

Aw, man. I went back and read the article the designer wrote about it and he said the same thing. It seems so obvious when you think about itThanks for the help! Live and learn

Not sure what you mean by maintaining structure? Honestly I started with the flag because I wasn't even sure if I could pull off these cuts, so I started with the easier ones. These intricate close cuts are freaking me out, I could use more advice!

Not sure what the category is for this...3D intarsia? I wanted to do something for Thanksgiving and stumbled on the pattern on this site (Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts - Fall-themed Napkin Holders).
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what the wood types are; I just went to a...

Segmentation pig - 2nd project
My first project was mostly straight lines, so I enjoyed the new challenge with this one. I'm especially proud of the tail. Couple of knicks and marks on the head but I kind of like them, they add character.
It's a fairly simple pattern but it helped me play around with sanding pieces...Last edited by lloydf; 09-03-2011, 05:50 PM.

Sander recommendations for a rookie
Got a tip from this thread to post a question here about sanders. I'm extremely new to scrolling and am only buying tools as I need them (because sometimes it's hard for me to stop). I feel the next purchase should be a sander for intarsia/segmentation projects. I currently have an orbital sander...
