Re: Fungi on Wood
At most I would only carve this with hand tools once you get it cleaned as much as you can. During the cleaning process, if you continue with this wood, I would definitely use a high quality respirator and wear protective gloves. These tools will not create fine dust....

Re: painting eyes
If you use a high gloss finish as stated, you should not need the white dot high light. The light in the room will do it for you reflecting off that surface. If you ever do use a tiny white dot high light, ALWAYS put the dot in the same spot respectively on the cornea...

Re: Need Help With an Idea
With the flat surface of the box I would think that chip carving would lend itself well to this. Ask your Grandpa about any special words or sayings that are appropriate to a wedding from your ethnic roots. This could be done in the original foreign language...

Re: Boiled Linseed Oil
Mix mineral spirits with boiled linseed oil 1:1. The mineral spirits allow better penetration into the wood. I have used this for 12 years and never had to reapply it and there is no tacky surface. I do not find the smell offensive and it does wear off. You can...

Re: protective carving glove
The Whizard Handguard II Glove is a good one. It extends over the wrist as well. I tend to wear out the thumb. It is heavier than most. It will save you against most reckless acts except a straight on poke.
This weekend at a carving show we were...

Re: Sharpening
Hi,
Sharpening is not an easy topic to cover. I am sure that you can get as many different ideas as there are people on this board. Do whatever works best for you. The wire edge is visible as a very small linear fray of metal right at the edge of your blade. Resist...

Resin Castings
Hello everyone, I am interested in making some castings of my carvings. I have done some reading. Does anyone have experience with this? I would like to know sources of supply, books to learn more, videos, etc.
What types of resins and molds are best? You get the idea. Thanks.

Re: Band Saws
Lorax, you are correct. The 3 wheel type band saws are not the best. I have been very happy with my large Delta. Occasionally woodworking magazines will run a comparative review of popular brands.
Keep this is in mind. The diameter of the black shoot coming...
