Is it possible for you to dip your fretwork in the stain also?? That is what I do with puzzle pieces, and it seems to work well. I just use a shallow aluminum pan for dipping.

I think you are doing a really fine job of staining to make us ask whether it is still all poplar.
I was wondering ... (always a dangerous thing!!) - since you are doing intarsia all of one wood - the same as your segmentation pics --- where is the dividing line?? Is it the shaping/rounding...

I got a kind of cute one in a packet of patterns by Sheila Landry. It was in the Wildlife patterns 2005, packet #5 (also has a kitten, puppy, nice polar bear and hmmmm maybe a fox. I have them all cut apart (my photocopies, not the original!! [which I cannot locate in my well organized work...

I really like your raccoon. I can't see how making him (or is it her?) bigger would improve on your very fine job.
Personally, I find most intarsia patterns far too large - most of my friends and acquantances are no longer young, and many live in small apartments or mobil homes -...Last edited by sheltiecarver; 11-17-2006, 11:42 PM.

I'm not in the UK, but I got mine last Saturday. It is a good one! I still claim that my mail carrier must read it first and then seal it back up!Must not have any interest in carving, though, 'cause I get that one about when it hits the news stands!

Aloe is also pretty good for use with cats and dogs - stops irritation and itching, helps scratches, small wounds and other superficial booboos (skin wounds only - nothing that goes deeper ) and is not harmful to them if they lick it off. And the plant is pretty easy to grow - just don't overwater it...
