    Re: rosewood dowels

Hi Ho, I tried the Google search...all I found were false leads. They had rosewood, and they had dowels, but not rosewood dowels. Did you find anything interesting that I might have missed?
Thanks a bunch for your help!

    rosewood dowels

Does anyone know if there is a good place online to order rosewood dowels? I have a friend who wants to carve knitting needles from them, but having no luck finding a supplier.
Thanks for any and all help!

    Re: Carving Yams

I tried yam carving a few years ago and have some grainy old pictures. The first one is carved but still fresh, the second is completely dry. I only did the two, and it was fun and easy. The only bad thing is after they were dried and sealed, some kind of creature started...

    Hey Mr. Munchkin,
I just added a linoleum knife to my tool box about 6 months ago, and I used it the same way you did. It worked great! I was going through my old junk drawer looking for something else (of course LOL) and there it was. I sharpened it on my diamond...

Dale, I'm not sure about the depth of the relief part. The whole thing was 2' thick, and I started to make a bowl, so I cleared out about 1/2' thickness of the center before I started to carve the fish. There is probly a good 1/4' of wood left...

Here is my latest carving in BASSwood of a BASS fish
    Al thinks this is funny
I had this piece of wood laying around for a long time and started to make a bowl out of it, then changed my mind and carved a fish instead. All the detail is woodburned and all the carving is done by hand,...

    Re: X-acto and disposable blades

When I first started carving, the only thing I had to carve with was a plain old box cutter utility razor knife. I used it for probably a year before getting a carving knife, and I really liked the way it worked. I still use it frequently for harder woods...

    Thanks everybody!
I don't know why, but I really enjoy carving the harder woods, maybe it is because they have such a nice sheen to them after they are sanded up good. Hubby loved this one! Of course, I can't imagine that he would tell me if he didn't LOL...

    osage orange carving

Today is our 23rd wedding anniversary and this is what I am giving to hubby. It is a letter opener carved from Osage Orange (hedgewood) and it took me 8 whole days from start to finish. All hand carved with knives and gouges, rasps and sandpaper.
I just had to see if I could do it LOL The osage...
