Sounds like a good meal/deal to me! You could cook & eat your failed attempts instead of merely burning them! :

    Re: wood carving tools

If you were to click on the Calendar of events you just might find a carving show in your area. Most of these shows have dealers with reasonably priced, open stock gouges for sale. Most, if not all will put a good working edge on them for you at a reasonable additional...

    Wood toxicity

:'( The beginning carvers have stumbled onto the subject of wood toxicity. I know that I have a chart around here someplace. There should be a page on it in WCI, but maybe it was just in the Power Carving freebie I got with a 2 yr. subscription. Some of that innocent looking wood like walnut, can kill...

    Re: Sharpening

This is beginning to look like a sharpening forum. If anyone is interested, a little trick for stopping the insides of smaller gouges; a hardwood one by two with a couple 3/16' dia. holes drilled about 1/2' in from one end and aprox. 3/8' from the edges. Counter-sink the...

I've always liked the aroma of boiled linseed oil. I dunk my painted Santas in it and it 'antiques' them real nice.

You shouldn't have to use a white dot for a hi-lite if you are glossing your eyes with super-glue. Ambient light will give you all the twinkle you need.

    Re: Sharpening

Some people refer to their gouges as knives and if you're having trouble with your V-gouge plowing instead of cutting, it probably needs a diamond shaped flat honed & stropped on the bottom. Just enough to get rid of that nasty little point that juts out ahead of...

  • Re: WHAT TO EXPECT FROM DRILL POWER VS. STD. MOTOR

I think I'd stick with the Dremel for carving & use the drill for drilling. Dremel also sells one or two shapes of kutzall burrs as well as two sizes of drum sanders on the 1/8' shank & the prices aren't that bad either....
