I have an old Delta C-arm scroll saw. I think it was made in the 80's. I got it on Craig's List a couple years ago as part of a package deal: scroll saw, drill press, and shop-vac, for $250. It works great. Very little vibration, and changing blades is easy. There are a lot of good deals out there...Last edited by wood-n-things; 02-02-2012, 01:17 PM.

car pictures
The main body of the car was cut from a 2x4. I'm not sure what kind of wood I used for the fenders. I've purchased wood assortment packs a few times. I just grabbed something dark for the sake of making a nice contrast. I like making toys like this....

Thanks Mike. I did not get a picture of his car, but I made a copy for myself. I'll try to remember to post a picture of it tonight.

Your cars look great. Toy Maker Press has some nice car patterns too. I made a couple cars for gifts this year. One for a young nephew, and one for an adult who collects die-cast model cars. My simple wood car will look a bit out of place with his 100's of super-detailed metal cars, but it made...

I used a Steve Good pattern to make initial ornaments for my extended family this year. I gave a few to friends also. Each person got the first letter of their first name inside a circle, cut from 1/2" basswood. The ornaments were about 1" across. I painted each a single color with watered...

I stand about half the time when cutting. I find the foot switch easier to use while standing then while sitting. Mine requires a significant amount of pressure. If I were to buy another one, I'd get something that activated with less effort.

I also use the type where you must keep your foot on the switch to keep the machine running. I find that using a foot switch makes doing fretwork much easier: it's quick to shut off the machine when I need to move to the next entry hole, and I always have both hands available to control the wood.

There is a very nice set here: Toymaker Press | Fun to Make Wood Toy Making Plans & How-To's for the Scroll Saw and Table Saw . I have purchased several of their books (in PDF) and the quality is outstanding.

I have an older Delta C-arm scroll saw, and I'm very happy with it. It has a big round table, variable speed, and very little vibration.
I got it a couple years ago on Craig's list. I got the saw, a nice drill press, and a shop-vac as a package deal for $250. I sold the drill-press...

I keep the speed dial on my saw right in the middle 99% of the time. If I need to increase the speed to keep the blade cutting, I replace the blade. If using a new blade doesn't help, then I increase the speed. This is only necessary for very hard or unusually thick wood.

Hi Buster. I have an older Delta scroll saw. I don't remember the model number, so it might not be the same as yours, but I keep the speed dial set in the middle of the range for 99% of my scroll saw work. This includes 1/8" plywood and 1 1/2" pine. If the wood is extra hard or extra thick,...

Hi Bob. I started out with a a Dremel scroll saw that used 3" pin end blades. Is that what you have? I made a lot of nice Christmas ornaments with it before upgrading to a saw that could use standard 5" plain end blades. It's a great hobby. Welcome aboard!

I do a lot with 1/8" BB plywood, mostly becasue I got a large box of it on ebay at a low price. The trick for me is to feed the wood slowly and carefully. It doesn't take much pressure to feed it into the blade. Cutting past the point where you want to make a turn is a sign that you're feeding...

I use my scroll saw to cut the outline of small carvings quite often. Any time the wood is less then 2" thick I'll use the scroll saw to cut out the blank. Most recently I've been cutting out angel Christmas ornaments that are about 3 inches tall from 1/2" basswood. The scroll saw makes...
