Artistry in Wood 2015 Anchorage
I entered a couple pieces in this years show, I had the Barn Scene from Carol and Homer Bishop under an intarsia category and Claudia's Elk which was inspired by Dick Miraglia's work under a woodcarving category. One of my biggest struggles at first was also the shaping process - especially wanting to put "bevels" on every piece even when there shouldn't have been one.
The other thing is the lack of tools, at first I was trying to shape all of my pieces with a palm sander and then freehand......Leave a comment:

Well Slayer
DeWalt replaced my 788 3 times in about 18 months, (this was 4 or 5 years ago) not to mention 2 times it was worked on at the repair center. I assume they fixed the problem of the table top not being flat, but be sure to check it with a good straight edge before you start cutting...Leave a comment:

I actually have some birch that has some really nice figure to it, almost curly that I was planning on using for the white, some blue pine to mix in there as well for snow maybe.

Max, the base is actually supposed to be hollow but the wood I used was very light in weight so I decided to leave it solid, but the candy dish idea is a good one.Leave a comment:

Thanks Rolf - it was a nice distraction from the other regular ornament making and you bet I wear a mask when sanding. I also try to do the worst of the sanding outside if possible, pretty small work area inside my shed!Leave a comment:

I was looking for another pattern a week or so ago from Judy Gale Roberts website and saw this one, she actually has 2 other snowmen patterns on there but I just ordered this one. Country Life
Country Life by Carol and Homer Bishop. Just finished this up. Overall size is 18 1/2 by 13 3/4 inches. I used canarywood, padauk, mahogany, aromatic cedar and poplar for the trees, rosewood for the tree trunks. The ground areas are cherry, the barn is all cedar, the path is zebrawood, the hill...
