Re: Grain Raising Problem (help please)
Hi Big Al...I was wondering about your treatment of linseed oil prior to painting with acrylics. I've read where you can put oil paint over acrylic but the other way around is a no-no. Have you ever experienced any problems with adhesion?...R...

Re: Glue & Rose Pattern
Hi Dave...Have you used that stuff to glue pieces together after a finish (oil or water based) has been applied? I am planning a project with a number of parts that I would like to stain before assembly.
Any thoughts?...Reg

Re: Benefits of sharp tools.
No doubt about it Bob, the time spent sharpening (or learning how) pays off big time. When the tool slides thru end and/or cross grain, leaving a shine on the wood, it doesn't get any better than that.

Hi Dave...you might want to check out Lee Valley for coping saw blades. I bought some and found them to be better than others I've tried. If I remember right I think they are made in Germany...Reg

Re: Aspen good bad?????
I agree with your assessment Al...I've used a lot of aspen and list it as one of my favorite woods to carve. I'ts readily available locally at the lumber dealers or, as I like to do because it grows in this neck of the woods, you can go out in the bush and harvest...

Re: Antlers horns Bones
If you live in an area where there is big game hunting you might want to check out the local meat processor. Unless the antlers are going to be used for a trophy, they are usually glad to get rid of them....

Re: carving purple heart
Hi firewalker...I made a couple of game boards out of purple heart. Didn't try carving it but it was one of the hardest woods I've ever worked with. I understand at one time it was used for ship masts so that gives you some idea of its strength.
I don't...
