To Rolf--I thought the ebony was too brittle too (it is) but there is enough natural oil in it which does allow it to bend without breaking if the grain is just right. It did take a few tries to get it right but it worked great once I figured out the pattern of heating...

The Intarsia

In this photo, I have attached the plaque pattern to the routed blank and using a #5 skip tooth blade I cut out the oval.
Before I remove the pattern I use a belt sander to clean up the outer edge of the oval.
I still have to route the decorative edge of the oval but here...

New Born Plaque
Hi Everyone
Here are a few WIP photos of a little commission that I just got. This should be a fun little project.

To Rolf--I used Red Velvet cut to size for the linings. I use yellow glue brushed in to adhere the linings.

Got the intarsia completed today, everything glued in and one coat of finish applied.Total of 115 pieces Still have to apply another coat of finish and install the interior lining and this one will be ready to ship. Fun project!!

Made pretty good progress on the Intarsia today.
Got the logo done, filled in all of the little pieces of the fence,got the tree done except for the trunk and got the water done. One more good day and it should be ready to fine-tune and glue-in.
85 pieces so far.
