Sending my deepest condolences for your loss Tony. 52 years is a long time to be associated with one you love and I hope that the memories of all the good times you had together along with the family the two of you raised help sustain you through this difficult period in your life. Best wishes as you...

Hi B'ville - As author of the tutorials posted on the forum I was also looking for a way to make them easily accessible again but having tested Ruffle out your suggestion is much easier to use than mine.
Over the next 24 hrs I'll edit the original posts to include the info on the Ruffle...

Melanie, Tim - thanks for the replies and the useful information which I'll certainly take note of.
Melanie - I've already tried the borax tip and it does make a very big difference to the intensity of the engraving which is a positive, the negative is that it emphasizes errors in the engraving....

Another thing - I just realized when looking again at this engraving that its not just the tail of the 'p' which is not aligning up. The letters M and E below are also out of alignment compared to their positioning in the Lightburn design layout.
Since Lightburn starts engraving the text...

@Rolf and interested folk - engraver update
A couple of weeks ago I posted a thread in this section about the new toy I was buying, namely an Atomstack X70 Pro 10W laser engraver/cutter. Having now returned to my home base from my US trip and with Easter vacations out of the way I finally got to play a little with it.
First a comment...Last edited by jim_mex; 04-21-2022, 11:37 AM.

Thanks guys for the compliments and appreciation of this post. As you can probably tell, I found the history behind the screw pile lighthouses fascinating and now have another gem of trivia wedged into some obscure corner of my brain to regurgitate at any opportune moment in the future.

Hi - You can fold the sandpaper in two with the abrasive side facing outwards. The idea is to lightly sand the clamp faces to remove any 'polish' effect they can get on the surfaces which clamp to the blade.
Ref tilting the table. There is no fixed angle. I just find 7 degrees is ok for...

North Carolina travels coming to an end....
Hi all – this past weekend was my last one here in Rocky Mount, NC and I’ll be heading back home to Central Mexico on Tuesday morning. Its been an interesting 3 weeks and despite some very changeable weather I managed to cover a lot of ground.
Last week I headed out to the nearby Sylvian...Last edited by jim_mex; 04-05-2022, 07:53 AM.

Be brave Carole! - instead of using an aluminum bar against the top of the chuck as in the video use a short length of hard wood about 1" x 1" in cross section that you can hit sharply with a hammer. Before doing this spray the top of the chuck taper with some WD40 the night before and also...

I also have a 788, however, mine has a home made MDF tabletop after the original got lost in luggage whilst I was traveling overseas. A long story which I'll not go into.
Ref blade clamps, frequently check both upper and lower clamps have no oil on them which may cause the blades to slip....

Hi Jim - I stopped at a small place in Hatteras village to have a very late breakfast - can't recall the name - where I ate clam chowder. It wasn't thick and creamy as I expected after sampling chowder in the LA area but it was delicious and filling and kept me going until I got back to home base. Very...
