There was a crack on the back of the deer round and yes it did break when I made the cut at that point. You can see it in the lower right hand of the picture. I'm thinking next time I need to fill any cracks with clear epoxy before I cut it

    Things I've been doing

So here are a few things I've been able to accomplish. The deer and pheasant are cut from one of the logs that were cut into round blanks for me. They both have sanding sealer on them. The pheasant has a coat of lacquer and the deer has a coat of clear shellac. I wanted to see what happened. I figured...

Thank you all, I like getting advice like this instead of trial and error on my part. I still can't believe I read the can wrong when I got it Saturday. I do plan on posting photos soon. I have some other projects that I have finished and want to show them to the forum for any comments that may help...

Yes, it would appear that I'm more than a little confused. What I got was Min-wax sanding sealer not Zinnser seal coat.. I will have to look again at the link that Rolf has in an earlier part of this post. The Min-wax can does not call for any type of thinner to be used. It states that after dry I can...

So I found some Min-wax Sanding Sealer and denatured alcohol at True Value yesterday. Mixed it 50/50 like Rolf suggested and applied it to the maple board using a brush. My wife was happy with how it looked. I have not applied the lacquer yet. There was some of the mixture left so I stored it in a glass...

    Rolf,

Is the alcohol like rubbing alcohol? Do you suppose the sanding sealer is something I could find at the lumber yard or hardware store here?

    finishing maple

I just finished a project using some of the maple stumps that were cut into boards for me. What is a good finish to use? It's a clock with a wolf at the bottom. All I have here is Danish Oil, Shellac and Gloss polyurethane

It's a delta 40-690. I ended up taking the table off, and both cover pieces off the non motor side. And then the switch cover and the handle that moves to put tension on the blade. I'm still not sure what I did to get the tension back. But putting that side cover back on was not easy for me. I couldn't...

So I finally got the saw to keep tension on the blades. but after I put the table back on the blade up against the right side of the hole. It was not like this when I took it apart. I need to know how to fix this I have a wedding present to finish and the wedding is tomorrow night. Is it possible I...

    blade tension

So up until this morning my delta would not tension past the 1 1/2 mark. Now all of a sudden it goes up to 4 but has very little tension. I've looked thru the info that Rick Hutchinson has and it has two different ways. I did take the switch cover off and the bold that holds the tension arm. You can...

Thanks for the answers. I started sanding on the end grains last night and yes it's going to take a while to sand it smooth. But I'll keep at it.

    Elm trees

Three or four years ago some friends had their elm trees cut down. They gave some of the stumps and other pieces to me. Up until a few weeks ago I didn't know what to do with them. It turns out that one my new coworkers knew exactly what to do with them. Her boyfriends parents have two different sized...
