Ok, as much as I hate to admit this I was an idiot last night. I took the bottom blade clamp with me to work this morning. Showed it to the guy who services the machines at work and told him I could see the silver end of the set screw but the one I had in my hand would not go all the way through so...

Unfortunately I don't have a tap and die set. I am going to try and find someone at work tomorrow before I try and order one.

    Delta 40-690

So while cutting a project the pieces would only come out of the top. So I figured the blade was out of adjustment again. As I adjusted the set screw in the bottom blade clamp it broke. It took me a minute to figure out why the set screw wouldn't go back in. I can see the set screw from the other side....

There is nothing wrong with pointing out potential harmful situations to me or anyone else. Others have also pointed this out to me in this thread. I have until Christmas to get this done and I am asking around to see if anyone has a better drill press and an extra pair of hands to help me drill the...

I have not tried doing anything with the chuck. It was just easier for me to try and hold the jaws up to they held the bits evenly.

Rolf, yes you are correct the bit has six sides, not eight.

As I ponder on this project I'm trying to come up with the easiest way to do this....

Looks very good. I think it would have taken me a lot longer to cut then it did for you.

The shaft is definately octagon. Unfortunately the drill is old and the three pieces that hold the drill bit or whatever I'm using in place no longer work very well. One of them likes to drop down further then the other two. I have to hold it up level with the other two and try to get the drill bit...

  • I'll have to show my wife your setup, she never did care for how ours was done. We decide to skip a few shows this year. To many things going on this year and did not get a lot of new things made. Glad to hear that things are going well

I did try to adjust the tension on the belt. The motor is spring loaded so as you move the motor to put the tension on the belts you really have to hang on to it. This was not easy for me. I finally used a crowbar to hold the motor in place while I tighten the motor in place. It never occurred to me...

I will need to open the top again and see if there is proper tension on the belt.

As far as using forstner bits. I have a small set that ranges from 1/4 to 1 inch. I've used those with out any issue. To me the bits that I ordered from Sloans are a little different then what I have. The...

As I look on the inside of the drill press it shows five positions with a pulley belt. I'm assuming that the lowest setting for the belt is for the slower speed. It says something about 50 hz = 515 for that position. I have no idea what that means.

The drill bit is stopping as I use it....

    forstner bits

I ordered some clocks and forstner bits from sloans workshop a few weeks ago. Just now getting around to playing with them. When I use the 3" forstner it stops when drilling into the board. Is this something that needs the speed of the drill changed? Or do I just need to go very slow?

I've been reading the posts on this thread with a lot of interest. All though I don't comment on each and every thing. I do enjoy seeing the projects that are being done. It gives me a lot of ideas on things I would like to try. This is the only forum I belong to and I have received a lot of help and...
