At last ....tadam....!π After a couple of months...π, pleasure, research, tests, , here is the lamp-shade finish!
Made with cherry for the 8 panels, and black walnut , ebony, and some marquetry yellow sheets at the back to get some yellow color as the base, and because the inside light was too much through the patterns.
Finish with Osmo Polyx oil , 2 layers after sanding till 320.
So here it is on daylight : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zq6ms8x7p...ijkaNPJwa?dl=0
and on evening light from the lamp : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t89oxlcmv...jOFikuQWa?dl=0
Very happy with the result, with almost same kind of nature as the base!
Thank for your support, and by reading and viewing some of your impressives pieces of all kind from I am still learning a lot!

Hello lampshade fans ...π
Finally , after a lot of tries and tests , after practicing a bit , I glued with wood glue the 8 panels with this bottle with a fine nose, and the result was perfect

Before and ready to be glued

once glued

And I did some tests to see how it look with a light on top of it ( the sanding is allready finished, lot of delicate
works...πand to 320 ! )

Merci Karl , your ideas are very good , but this lamp serve a an ambiance lamp or mood lamp, and if you are near , you can read next to it.
I am working on the top part which will be probably black with no light coming out , will see.
Presently , and it will be like that, there is a rod coming from the base and holding the lamp shade and the 2 bulbs , at the top. I just modified it this afternoon so the 2 bulbs will be at a different angle . As suggest I will put Led bulbs , so not much heat from them.
I could put also something inside the panels to reflect more light !
Next is testing the light coming out...

It's looking pretty good! The design is good. Problems I see is the lack of light able to "escape" from the shade and having a top piece to attach to the harp of the lamp. While you can simply cut a piece to match the inside of the top of the light, it will cut down on the light even more. Your options are limited due to the height of the shade. For a lock nut you would have to use the existing or cut out one on the scroll saw with a nut in-bedded in the bottom of the wood. For instance a bird silhouette attached to a round disk pedestal with a nut glued or inset on the bottom.
My major concern is the light "throw". You will only have light really coming from beneath and only a small amount from the patterns. It will look pretty neat with the room lights off, but it will be limited to pretty much a night light. As I look back on the original - that style throws out much more light. Perhaps enough to read by.
It will be neat to see how it does when you are finished.
Keep up the good work.

My first test of assembling with all the patterns , to see how it look like !
Some backgrounds at the back of open pattern have to be insert, do not know yet for the color , probably white so the light may come out.
Not sure yetif I will leave the patterns which are a bit too big compare to the others.
Also I have to make : 1e , the top of the shade which will be black or almost as the wood used, and 2e, the bottoms of each pallet with a black pattern.
What do you think , and be honest........!

Yββour advise concerning the look ! Sometime I feel that I am putting to much on the panel , and next day....it's OK !
Do you think I should put all panels with only intarsia cuttings as this one ,
β
or adding some of the 8 panels (or most ) with flowers or birds cutted in darker wood as those ones
β
I will do some assembling tests an put the shade on top of the lamp so I will see....

Bonjour !
After a couple of tests and tries, here are some progress, your advises are welcome !
The finish product is not yet on the panel, will wait after the final assembly , with the adhesive. Some sanding and final touch are also to be done on some!
Here they are:
And the next is not yet decided ( almost ) with or without the wood bird
without
with the bird
and finaly what do you think of my flower transformed in a butterfly
after a couple of cutting
and with her antenna
Very satisfied of my progress, have a lot of fun to create, choose, testing all kind of items to be inserted.

Really nice work! I personally prefer a Semi gloss or Satin finish. The only time I may use a gloss finish is on some wood turnings.👍 1Leave a comment:

Here is somes of my inserts , in ebony , and I put to reinforce at the back of the bird (chickadee ) a MDF with real wood on each side , total of .096" , because the cuttings was very delicates ! Still have some sanding on a couple of them!
Not finish yet of cutting inserts , I have lot of fun to create all kind of set-up !
So here they are.....
the bird as on the base ...
or with an red eye .. not sure yet....
and finally
the bird is bigger than the others inserts.
Other eye for my bird.... like it better....! And you ?
And I know that the bird's color is not .... real, but as the one on the base!
Very happy .... but still somes to come, and somes will be cut directly in the 8 panels

Finish product : what would you use for the finish product , as on cherry or ebony? I like usually oil product but I did some tests with gloss varnish and It is quite good , because all the yellow and black base is quite glossy.
I have lot of fun to create the shade , by doing a lot of tests and differents tries of what I will put on the 8 sections .
Will put some photos.

by RolfThere may have been some crud on the tips from manufacturing.
In the ~20 years of scrolling I never cleaned the ends of my blades until recently. Even with the Pegas clamps I was having some blade slippage, I now scuff the ends of my blades with some 220 grit paper End of problem.!...-

by NC ScrollerDonβt over sand them as you will shorten their usable life. Only sand as needed. Another thing to do is clear your blades before installing. Blades are coated with oil to prevent rust. Wipe the ends with alcohol or lightly sand with 320 grit.
