Regular all purpose household ammonia from the $1 store works just fine..

This is what happens when you fume cherry wood with ammonia for 4 days.....
      Is that crazy or what...
The upper rear panel and the roof is from the same piece of wood...

Thanks for sharing! I like what the fuming did but it does add another variable to the process.

That does look good. I have never tried fuming. I have done the vinegar and steel wool mix I think that is called "ebonizing" several times with good results, this fuming is another one I'd like to try.

How deep is the color? can it be sanded at all? I will have to play.

Hey Rolf, I'm not sure how deep the color goes and at this point I'm not willing to find out..
all I know is that my hands better be clean and oil free before I even touch them.
i know I can get away with a light steel wool..

Had a great time at the lake and caught a few fish..
spent the last 2 nights working on the car and I should be done with it tonight, that leaves me 2 day to clear coat and then it will be ready to go..

                            [What blade for this?]

I used a Pegas 2/0 skip tooth blade for this and all my 1/4" plywood puzzles. Any 2/0 blade will give similar results, as long as it is a simple blade which cuts only on the down-stroke. I stick with Pegas because I have found them to be consistent....

Are you thinking spray or brush? If it is a big grain you will need to use a grain filler, I have never used a filler so can't help much there. This may help a bit.

Rolf, I use White pine or Cedar but the most important aspect is the painting technique. I always put on a white primer, use fine steel wool to remove imperfections, Apply exterior outdoor paint, rub fine steel wool after each application when dry and final finish I apply clear poly ( spray can )...
