    3D Snowman

I was looking for another pattern a week or so ago from Judy Gale Roberts website and saw this one, she actually has 2 other snowmen patterns on there but I just ordered this one. I guess for my first one it isn't to bad, I was having problems matching the head to the middle part, guess I rounded the head a little to much, oh well - I should be able to hide most if it. I'm not sure what the white wood is that I have had, reclaimed from pallets (ash, cottonwood, aspen???) the red is redwood and the arms are walnut. I'll insert dowels in the face and just burn the ends to make them black. The lower body is made up of 5 stacked ovals, the middle is 3 layers thick and the head 2 layers... talk about some carving and sanding - be prepared for a ton of dust!

    Thanks for looking...

PS - Sorry about pictures being sideways, they are ride-side up on my computer and I couldn't see a way to rotate them on this...

It is coming along nicely. You need to set up a downdraft table. I hope you are using a good quality mask!!

Thanks Rolf - it was a nice distraction from the other regular ornament making and you bet I wear a mask when sanding. I also try to do the worst of the sanding outside if possible, pretty small work area inside my shed!

That is a great project. You did a fantastic job on the finish. If you hollowed out the base and made the middle a lid you would have a great candy container.

Max, the base is actually supposed to be hollow but the wood I used was very light in weight so I decided to leave it solid, but the candy dish idea is a good one.
