  • USB Drive cover

A friend wanted to make some graduation presents for some of his students and asked me to help come up with a design for a wooden cover for a flash drive. I started with Steve Goods key chain program and had to modify it some after printing and replace text with word art font text but I think they came out pretty good.

I purchased the drive from Fry's electronics, it is a 8 gig HP they had on sale for 5.00. I took off the plastic case it was in. The drive is only about 1" long at most. Get the one without a light on the end. After cutting out the name on 1/8" wood and gluing the pieces into place I cut all three pieces to shape while taped together on the scrolls saw, I think the inside piece is about 3/8". I marked where the drive would need to go and cut out the section and then drill down into the part where the drives is inserted and then used a dremel to clean it out so the drive would go into. After finishing I used just a little epoxy to hold it in place. Don't drive any further than you have to, you want the plastic cover to stay in place. I will try and work up plans this next week and post.
