to give it a rough natural look and feel I bevel cut and raised sections then rough blended them with a dremel sanding drum, smoothed all edges with a flap wheel and hand sanded to 220.
To bring out the red a little more I stained with brown liquid shoe polish from the Dollar Store. (A Lazy mans dream). Put a couple coats of shellac on to protect it while I finish up the backside.
