I didn't get the top finished and I still need to apply a couple of coats of clear.
I may not add the last panel and just dress the opening. We both liked the glow behind it.
The panels are cyprus I think. If anyone knows for sure please tell me.
The base and columns are zebra wood and the floor is 1/8" BB. I cut a trivet pattern in the floor and added spacers and feet on the bottom to allow air flow for the candle and to keep a steady flow of cooling air between the flame and panels. The panels are backed with cedar grilling wraps and sanded them as thin as I dared to soften the light and eliminate any sharp light points. It worked quite well, much better than the pix show. When I cut the floor I stacked it on a piece of 1/2" poplar and used it's cut outs for the spacers and feet.
I've had that one piece of zebra for a couple of years. I've never worked with it before, really nice to work with. Very hard and a little smelly when you cut but the look and finish is worth any con.
Sorry to show so many times but I liked this one.
