  • Cup Cake Boxes

the plans for the cup cake boxes suggests using a 1 3/8 inch thick wood which I don't have... so what I did on the first one was to glue two 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 3/4 inch boards together and then cut it down to 1 3/8 with my band saw (pictured on the left)...

the one pictured on the right, I cut 4 pieces at 1 3/8 x 3 1/2 x 3/4 and glued them together..instead of having the end grain running on the sides it now is on the top and bottom...

Carole mentioned in the book that you don't have to use the exact measurements, if you use different measurement then you might have to make some angle adjustments to make up for it....

I think I'll be using the second method for any future cup cake boxes...

Trout, you're good! Can't even see the seams in the second version. Now all you need is the icing. Can't wait to see what you do there.

Catlyn, the box is for pretty much whatever you want. Could be an engagement ring or a jelly bean. Whatever!

I still need to do the finishing touches....
I have to say the cake bases are a piece of cake to make, the frosting is an easy cut but what takes the most time is getting it shaped to look like frosting.

I have a 3 day weekend to play in the shop, I would like to get a couple more cup cakes and maybe the platter done...

I thought I should have the platter ready to go for when I get my cup cakes done...

that was an all day project....I not to happy with the way the black walnut looks but that's all I had....
I'll just have to hide it with cup cakes....

it looks good in person but these pictures makes it look like it needs more sanding, that's why it's still a work in progress...
the next platter will be better...

is doing great in therapy. His range of motion is about 3 weeks ahead of where they expected him to be. He has zero strength in his hand or arm. He tried to grate some cheese, and he couldn’t hold the grater. The doctor had to do repair stitching on the muscle and that will take the longest to heal....

When we started out, it was 45 deg and rain. When we got there it was 44 deg and rain. By the time we left it stopped raining but was 42 deg. and windy. Luckily we are under cover but that doesn’t stop the wind. I sold 4 baskets, Sealife puzzle and a few other things. I moved the coffee grinders...
