Nothing stained, finished or even sanded. The stand is plain pine board and will be stained English chestnut. No color changes planned for the ceder portrait or backer that is also ceder, both planed to about 5/16 (8MM). Edges will be left a little rough. All will be coated with 2-3 shellac and several coats of clear something. I like the coated in glass look.

That is very nice. The stand is awesome. Do another in a darker wood and a great finish and submit it with the plans to our mag. You may get published....Very nice indeed!"Still Montana Mike"

A plan Mike that's funny. The main part was a piece of clip art I had seen some place and couldn't find again so I taped the wood and pencil drew it on the piece. The rest was just a little straight edge and bevel gauge work in the cut offs.
These are the start of my sons plaque in the other thread.May the wind at you back .....

got the portrait finished and just a little sanding and a couple of coats of clear acrylic on the stand.
I burned it with a torch to darken and bring out the grain. I was very pleased with the result. It looks 100 years old.May the wind at you back .....

Nice work Oily, the wood dye and finish make it a very powerful image, the backstand also adds to the whole piece.

by RolfThere may have been some crud on the tips from manufacturing.
In the ~20 years of scrolling I never cleaned the ends of my blades until recently. Even with the Pegas clamps I was having some blade slippage, I now scuff the ends of my blades with some 220 grit paper End of problem.!...-

by NC ScrollerDon’t over sand them as you will shorten their usable life. Only sand as needed. Another thing to do is clear your blades before installing. Blades are coated with oil to prevent rust. Wipe the ends with alcohol or lightly sand with 320 grit.
