That's coming along nicely Trout. I like the contrasting woods.

I've got the plans for their Buck board wagon. Hope to start it soon.

every night this week I've done something to help get this project done..
today was the hand rails. What I did was take brass rod cut them to size and soldered them together.
its getting to the point of glueing it all together..

how how are you going to apply another clear coat ? Do you have to disassemble it and then reassemble it each time? This is as always a really great piece just like all of your models. I refer to them as models because they are soo well done and finished. Thank you for showing them.

Hey Hammer, the clear coat has to be planned just like everything else. The center section isn't glued in yet, I'm waiting for more string (cable) so I can fill up the cable spools, it would be pretty hard to do that in place.
im finishing up the boom section so I can get that clear coat before it's finial assembly..

i wish i was was at home working on it instead of being at work in the rain..

The only reason I'm building this beast is to enter it in our county fair..
we know it's going to win a blue ribbon and maybe a judges favorite..but will it win me a "Best of Show"??.

this is what happens when last year your red neck wheeler gets beat out by a farm tractor,

there's nothing like winning a ribbon and having the thought of 250,000 people can walk by and see this thing..
it's too bad that our state fair runs the same time as our fair..

LOL - Looking great! Let us know how it goes! Strange that your county fair is the same time as the state fair. Hard to "move on" from county fair to next stage the state fair when they are the same time! Good luck to you.

Some of you might already know this..
im also a judge at the fair, I judge the junior woodworking division..
for a county as big as ours you would think there would be more woodworking stuff entered. Who knows my crane might be the only thing entered in the wooden model division. Last year there was only 2 of us 😞
                        I still have until June..

The boom is done and ready to be clear coated..
all that's left is to string it up..

I think you should just frame it, and forget about the rest of the project (just kidding). That part alone is a work of art!

                              Hi Carol..
i have to say this boom is kinda fragile, a lot of joints being held together with toothpicks.. I'm putting on extra clear to help keep this thing together..

i might do a Carol project when this one is done.

Just don't let anyone sneeze on it! Fragile always makes me nervous, especially when it's on display, or when it has to be sent somewhere.

Always happy to see your work, whether it's my design or someone else's. Skill shows!

Wow. Well deserved ribbons for sure. Our fair started doing some new rules about 2 years ago. Entries into "Home Arts" can be just about any design. Entries into "Fine Arts" have to be original designs. I know a couple of scrollers who used to compete in Fine Arts, especially...

I'm guilty of not wearing eye protection while scrolling---other than the magnifying glass. But, I do wear wrap around safety glasses when I'm sanding, routing, etc. At the recommendation of my eye doc a few years ago, I did add one safety/health step though. He recommended that a couple times...

It is totally heartwarming to see that there is humor left in this world, and not everything has to fit some politically correct mold that attempts to please the twisted pantie nimrods. Scrollers seem to be some of the most well rounded and easy going group of folks there are. Even when we have...

I'd be far more concerned about lung protection, but I like some, use a magnifier lamp and wear glasses (not safety). i have broken many blades never had anything "fly" anywhere, well except my lower blade holder. I have glaucoma and cataracts (although not bad enough for surgery yet). ...
