I'm making several tivets for our new ceramic-top stove using 3/4" red oak. Any suggestions on finish? The oak looks nice enough unfinished but I'm not sure how it will hold up to hot pans.

Hi Mike,
You may want to do a search on trivets on this section of the forum for further advice, this subject has been approached before.
I'd recommend an oil (Walnut, Danish, Tung, BLO, Mineral) finish. It will pop out the grain pattern, and give protection once you let it cure properly
I don't believe a polyurethane would stand up to the heat, so I'd not recommend that.
Shellac, lacquer and catalysed lacquers should stand up fine once fully cured.

Thanks, guys. I'll go with one of the oils, soon as I get to the hardware store. Great idea on the felt pads, too. Never thought about that.Mike

Reply to Who has Been Vaccinated ?by meflickI’m too young yet
don’t meet other guidelines. We are still 75 and over or health care workers I believe. My husband is in health care, so he has now gotten both of his shots. At this rate, I figure I will be doing good if I get sometime this summer.
Glad hubby got his, figure he was my biggest...

Reply to Who has Been Vaccinated ?by will8989Our appt is next week, I think. We are going to another county as ours doesn’t have enough. So they say. First one was cancelled for 2/1 as they had to make sure they had enough for the 2nd shot. Applied the next day and got the same appointment they cancelled. Go figure.
