Camaro consul top

A good friend asked me to make the top for the center consul and the radio.
I was thinking of using 1/2" white oak but wanted to get your opinion on the wood and finish.
Keeping in mind that it gets HOT inside the cars here in Tucson, what wood would you use and the finish?

I am really open to suggestions and advice.

Come on... somebody has to have some idea of what wood to use.

I'll bite, white oak sounds good. I think I'd use an oil finish as it will expand better than a poly or lacquer. Problem with a console is it's liable to get dirty and be subject to spills etc. Maybe this will generate some more replies for ya from folks a lot smarter than me.

I think it partly depends on the color of the interior too. I'd like walnut or black walnut myself. Just use a tung oil finish.
