Anyone have a suggestion what finish I could use so it won't darken the color of redwood, or change it very little??????

Water based polyurethane will be your best bet. Good protection with little discoloring. Another option is Laquer, it will darken some. Your best solution will be to test different finishes on the wood and see which you like.

Search for a used hegner. Parts are readily available and their service Dept is top notch. My first one was a craftsman and hubby bolted it to the workbench it was on. Then I switched to a bandsaw than my Hegner 21 years ago....
