To all of my fellow scrollers that makes trivets - which I have never done until now - please share what is the best way to finish a trivet that you plan on using for hot pots. I've cut some trivets for gifts, but not sure how is the best to finish them. Thank you for any advice you can share!!

I cut one from white oak. I let it soak in mineral oil for longer than I should have but it turned out great.Pacifism is great, as long as everyone is participating.

I sincerely appreciate the responses from everyone - thank you. It looks like mineral oil is the most preferred method. I'll post some pictures when I complete them.

When I was making Trivets years ago, I had some problems when using the gloss poly finish....a very hot pot would heat up the Poly and leave a white ring. Haven't tried it since. As for using lemon oil, I have not tried that, but it should work.Hawaiilad

I finish all of my trivets in Danish Oil. Haven't had any problems or complaints and it holds up to the heat of a pot just fine.Don

by RolfI periodically get asked if I am still making the kits. The answer is yes.
I get a private message on the forum to which I reply but suspect new people to the forum don't check for a response.
So please, if you have sent me a PM check for a response.-

Reply to Hegnerby RolfThe Hegner like some other saws have a sweet spot or not so sweet spot where they may vibrate. I know they need to have a solid footing.
When we were younger (2005) we used to bring our saws to our club meeting in an old barn with wooden floors. The seasoned scrollers all had Hegners. The rest...-

Reply to Eccentric adjustmentby RolfI assume you are talking about changing the stroke length. Looking at the manual it says you can shorten it for cutting thin wood and or metal. I have never known anyone that did that. We have several Hegner owners in our club. I am not one of them.
