I've been trying to come up with a technique for antiquing a decoy. I just can't seem to get that smooth antiqued texture to the paint. Can anyone give me some hints please, I'm about to pull my hair out.

You might try making a wash of a light gray or even an off white acrylic and water, and applying that over the completed project, or wash out with a light stain mixed down with paintthineer to a consistancy of your likeing.

I use a 50/50 mixture of Deft and laquer thinner tinted with burnt umber oil paint. You can make it as dark as you want it. If you put on too many coats, the finish starts getting glossy. I think it gives a nice patina to the piece.

      Good Luck,
