In a previous topic, I mentioned I had placed an early order for some wood for Christmas ornaments 2019. In addition to the "premium wood" they are know for, I sprung for one of their 20 lb. cutoff boxes. These are boards with knots, etc. that they are not going to put in their premier line-up. Maybe I got lucky, but I got several pieces of book matched walnut, oak and poplar along with some other stuff. The knots are not where they will eventually make a difference and the wood will be gorgeous when I get it sanded down.
So, I guess I'm saying to take a chance on "seconds". You never know what you will get. I would estimate that out of the 20 pounds, I will burn less than 2 pounds.

I had the same experience, Jim. I ordered the Exotic Woods seconds. They even labeled the various woods, so I could know what I get.

My box is almost gone. What is left, 1/2” Wenge and 3/4” yellowheart

Denny if you took up intarsia you would probably have a use for them.

I did intarsia in the past, in fact I participated in the Tree Frog challenge. I am just not that good at shaping.

You got lucky - every time I look at those 10# & 20# boxes, they are out of stock. Just bad timing, I guess.

I got some 1/4 and 1/2. One piece may be 3/8, but I have yet to sort and mark.

                    Rolf,

How many times do you do one-offs? That is deciding a project takes too long to make too many of them on the off chance they don't sell.
