Cutting thicker wood

I have trouble when cutting 3/4 inch wood. I don't 'push' my work through, and try to keep it straight, but the exit hole on the bottom is always different than the line I've been following on the top. Therefore, when I turn the work over, the design isn't as nice as the top. I'm using a Craftsman 16'. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks a lot. I never even thought about changing my blade. I've been using a #5, but will definitely try a #7. And I'll also have to try some Flying Dutchman Blades....
