Super hard birch plywood?

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. Every year around this time I buy a couple sheets of 1/4 inch birch at Lowes or HomeDepot for ornaments. It seems this year its dulling my blades very quickly and leaving a metallic dust behind. Very tough to stack cut also. Thanks.

The way the BORG buy plywood it's possible they got some marine grade ply for some reason (they wouldn't know the difference anyhow). That would explain the tougher to cut and dulling blades more quickly but not the metal dust. I've never heard of metallic fillers being used in plywood but with the garbage these places buy it's possible that some offshore manufacturer found a way to lower the cost of ply by using them. It's also possible the metallic dust is coming from your blades though I've never had that happen with any brand or type of blade. Perhaps a bad batch of blades combined with marine grade ply???

Kevin, Perhaps in the US marine grade ply is different then it is in Canada, but I found marine grade ply a real treat to work with.

Rosemailing Clock 002.jpgit is actually quite beautiful wood and very easy to work with. It is very light and cuts so easy, no sanding what so ever when you use the right blade.

I read somewhere that the glue in ply will dull the blades. So the Marine ply sounds right.

You should go back and buy more before they figure it out. hehe.

ABout the only grade of ply I use is Marine grade I get all I want free sheets for the most part are 2' x 3' but every now and than i get a 3' X 5' sheet sweettttttttt ! Comes from a plant here that can t use it if it is smaller than 2' So I have a garage full 3/8 or 5/8 thickness and I love it Jerry
