Can someone identify this wood for me? I picked it up while camping , somebody left it behind from their campfire wood. I think it is from Florida as that is where I found it. Thanks for your input.

Spalted something or other, but it sure is pretty!

Scott & Carole! A neighbor said it may be Blackjack Oak which I think is a member of the Red Oak family. Not sure what I'll use it for yet but it sure is different to me.

The bark looks more like a Sand Laurel Oak than a Blackjack Oak.

The Blackjack Oak has a deeply fissured bark while the Laurel Oak is smoother like the one in your picture.

That's what I was wondering Betty: If these would work (larger) for hair?

The perfect solution when I need a wider top on my Hegner. A magnetic sheet! I decided not to get the Pegas as the only reason was for the wider top and the top feed blade. After 19 years, my Hegner is still running like new and I couldn’t justify the expense. It was a “want” and not a “need”....

Good idea Scott. Also, my daughter has long, curly hair. She twists it up and around and sticks a pencil in to hold it. I also stick a dowel in my hair when working and my hair gets in my way and I twist it up. The one in this picture would perfect for thick hair.
