Wood identification

Once again I stumbled onto a site.
If you are ever trying to identify a sample of wood check out http://www.oceanacoustic.com/veneer-sampler.html
Just slide your mouse over the picture of the wood sample and it will tell you what it is. A note to people withg dialup, this is a graphic intensive site. I would LOVE to have some of each veneer

Reminds me of my Geology class days. Look at the rock, feel the rock, taste the rock... What kind of rock is it? One of too many species I can't remember.

I saw a lot of different species, as I salvage as much wood as I can from the land fills. Tho I've gotten good, it's not unusual for me to run into something I can't quite identify.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison, allows you to send up to 4 samples of wood, per year, for them to identify, free of charge.

It's a great service.
