  • Turning on the saw???

I'm am completely new to all of this although my father was a very gifted woodworker. I'm hoping to follow in his footsteps. An online friend of mine sent me a scroll saw but it doesn't have instructions. I can't turn it on!!!
It's a Sears Craftsman 16' saw. It has a red switch that says 'Pull on' and 'push off', but when I pull on it nothing happens. It also says 'to lock, remove yellow key', but it did not come with a yellow key.
I called Sears and ordered a manual but it will take a while.
    What am I doing wrong??

    Thanks,
    Carolyn

They have the yellow safety keys at Sears. You will have to get another key and it should work then. This is a safety feature that they put on tools so that children will not mess around and turn it on and get cut.The yellow key will fit into the on-off switch.I hope this answers your question.

You'r right Grooze, most Sears stores have those keys in stock, but there are two different types so tell the clerk exactly what tool it is. You might find them at Western Auto Stores in the midwest, too.

Thanks you guys! That does answer my question. I will check for the key at Sears and since I live in Canada I will also check at Canadian Tire (large hardware store) and see if they have it.

make sure it is plugged in. and yes this has been the reason a saw didn't turn on for me
