    Drill Doctor

    Anyone have a Drill Doctor?

I was at Lowes last night and picked one up after hearing someone talk about it. I got it home and tried it out. That thing is amazing! And to think of all of the drill bits I have thrown out over the years because of them being dull and too lazy to try and sharpen them myself.

If you don't have one, you might want to check them out.

I have one and it works perfect.
I generally go through my whole drill index and sharpen half a dozen to a dozen of the ones I use most that may or not be dull but I just touch them up to make sure I always have sharp ones on hand.
I got it used real cheap from a person that apparently couldn't figure out how to use it or he would have kept it.

i dont own a drill doctor, in industrial machiene shop class we had to sharpen all the bits on a bench grinder by hand, to get out of apprentistship, so i didnt feel the need for one until i got old and eye site got deminished..\ wish i would have got one but almost nobody had good responce on the tool.

a good method to maintain the difference between, bits that are sharp and used bits is to use a underware marker on the sharpended edge of the bit, dull the shine out... before putting it into the index, that way next time your going to use the drill bit you can get a visual on whether its as sharp as new before you chuck it up... or if your using a bit that might or might not preform to the best of its ability.

          Bill,
          Why being so negative again.

I sold it to you. I used it but did not like to run it with a hand drill. I now have one with an motor and it works thousand times better.
The one I sold to you was a gift from the Handy Man club. The money I got was 100% profit.

Sorry about that Mike . I didn't mention any name and you made yourself conspicuous by your reply.
I really thought that was the reason that you wanted to get rid of it.
It works real good and I use it often.

What model Drill Doctor are you folks using. Our wood club has one and it doesn't work worth a darn.

earlinjax, mine is the 250 Handyman Drill Dr, and works just fine. No dull drill bits in my shop.

I have seen over a hundred comments on the Drill Doctor on various message boards and can count on one hand the folks who were dissatisfied with them!! I have an older one(Model #250) that works just fine; but wish I had purchased a 500 or a 750 so I could do split point bits.

I consider it to be one of the best tool investments that I have ever made!!!

I have an older model with the 2 drill holders so that I can do up to 3/4 and it does the split point if you choose to.
It has worked fine for me.
