Hegner

Well the Hegner arrived Friday, it is set up in the garage and all was fine until that first blade broke. Are there any videos anywhere that show how to replace the blade,I can't seem to get it into that lower blade clamp correctly. Hoping that I did not make a terrible,terrible mistake buying the thing....

Phil, did you take the blade clamp out from the bottom arm and place in the clamp holder on the right side of the table?

First time I tried changing the blade, it was very frustrating, especially since I was used to working on the EX. But, after I figured it out, it became very manageable.

Although you will notice the saw isn't same model you have, the bottom clamp and blades changes are done exactly the same way.

I did take the bottom clamp out and put in the clamp holder. Very difficult to tell when the blade is positioned correctly, inserted far enough into clamp, start tightening and the screw grabs the blade and forces it out the side...very very frustrating. Initial impression is that this is the worst case of Aggie Engineering that I have ever seen...the whole blade setup is awkward. Maybe after a few dozen tries it will seem better...

Phil, push the blade until it makes contact with the screw, then just barely back it off so it won't catch. It is a little awkward at first and my kids insist on using the Ex because of this. But it does get better.

At the end of the day, if you find you don't think you are going to like the blade change mechanism, I think there is a money back warranty on the saw. That saw is way to expensive not to love it.

How much vibration does your Hegner have on full speed compared to your EX?

Thanks, I keep thinking I would feel some solid stop or slot or something...

I don't think that I cranked up to full speed yet, but so far the vibration is very minimal, comparable to the EX. Will give a better report when I've had a bit more time cutting at full speed. This is going to take some getting used to.

Here is a photo of a little guide I made and attached to the Hegner clamp holder to help align the blade in the clamp. I have this device on all my scroll saws.

That is very clever, Jim. I had been having some trouble earlier with my blade catching in the wood and I determined that I wasn't getting the blade in at a precise vertical to the clamp. Since then, I've taken greater care when clamping the blade and the problem went away. This little device will help me in that regard. Thanks for sharing! Is that sheet metal on top of the factory-made clamp holder - I can't really tell from the picture what material you used.

Sorry. Jim but better with two changing holders plus a small magnets so do not lose them . Plus just the latest changes to hegner bring it closer it's clone ! Only difference is the cut in the Hegner table now ! Sam

Thanks for all the good info. Now for another question. Where/what do you do with the little blade tool gizmo so as to not lose it? Seems like there should be some sort of slot or something on the saw or table where you can put it, like with the old 1980's Delta that had a thing on the side that the blade tool snapped into.

Phil I bought a package of rare earth magnets. I use them everywhere. Just put one in a convenient place and it will hold the wrench.

Has anyone replaced the eccentric on the Hegner scroll saw or made any adjustments to this part.
I bought an used Hegner m22 and it vibrates at about 3/4 speed. Maybe I'm just over thinking this problem, last year I purchased a multi cut 3/25 inch Hegner it is a single speed and it runs like a champ.

The Hegner like some other saws have a sweet spot or not so sweet spot where they may vibrate. I know they need to have a solid footing.
When we were younger (2005) we used to bring our saws to our club meeting in an old barn with wooden floors. The seasoned scrollers all had Hegners. The rest of us were a mix. Almost all of the saws had to be run at a slower speed because of the whippy floor.

I am thinking that the vibration point of the M22 is higher than what your single speed runs at.
