New planer

A couple weeks ago my old Delta planer stopped working..had it about 10 years. I have been looking at allot of different models and decided on the 13" Rigid. I looked at the newer Deltas and the DeWalt 734 and 735. Good and bad on both. The end result was made because of two reasons. One, the replacement blades here on the Island or internet ordering & shipping would be about $60 for a set of 3 blades for the DeWalt...only $30 for the Rigid, Two, I was able to get a life time warranty on the Rigid. Three years right away, and once I called the Company, they gave me a life time as well.

Hooked it all up today and ran several boards of Oak and Koa through it. If you buy this machine, make sure you hood up the dust collection unit that comes with the planer...won't run without it. Oh yea, that dust collection works very good. I have it hooked to my Craftsman one tool at a time unit, and it works great...hardly any chips left on the planer. Of course I have only ran it one day, but so far I am happy with it. Much larger than my old Delta.

Good luck with your new toy, that is one toy I wheel outside to use. No way am I going to clean up that mess in my little shop. Vac attach, or not mine makes one "hell-ova-mess."

WD, with the chip/dust chute attached (in the picture) and hooked to my collection system, I only saw a little dust on the planer. I have always been like you...way to much dust, but so far this one is great.

I have a 3or4 year old Rigid planer and am quite happy

with it. The dust collection hood really works well on mine

too. So far mine has served me very well. Good luck

I have the Rigid too Larry, the dust collector with a chip separator is a must. I used it a couple of times without the DC and it will throw out some shavings like nobody's business.

My only complaints with it are no matter how much adjusting I do I can't seem to eliminate snipe. Keep an eye on the wrench when changing the blades it is pretty soft metal and the hex shape will round out. Also keep an eye on the heads of the screws because they will lose the hex shape also I have replaced them a couple of times.

Tim I had the same problems with the screw heads on my old Delta....what did you do to replace the screws? Order them from Rigid?

It is always fun to get a new toy. Good luck with it. How is it with snipe and how wide will it plane?

The hose blew off my Dewalt in the middle of a cut in the early days of using it OH what a mess in my basement shop.

I have only planed wood 2' - 6' and the snipe was not bad at all. I try to keep it level going in and coming out and it seems to help. Perhaps in/out feed table or roller would help.

I did get the replacement screws from Rigid. There are little springs under the bar that secures the blade so if you need to change screws do them one at a time. DAMHIK.
