Foot switch for Dremel 1680?? & more

I have the type of foot switch that you step on to turn on then step on again to turn it off. I have it mounted on the front of my saw stand at knee height. Just bump it with my knee to turn the saw off or on. I have tape over the saw switch to keep the saw dust out.

I have a foot switch on my EX-21. It came with the saw and I never thought I would need one. After I used it once, I do not know how I got along without it. It took about 10 minutes of practice to get used to it, meaning going for the on/off switch as opposed to just lifting my foot. I love it.

I use one from Lee Valley it is very good, I also have one to start my dust system.

I have a EX 21 and I use a foot switch. You have to hold it down to make the saw run and as soon as you let your foot off of it the saw will stop. This is helpful to me not to have to let go of the board to hit the switch on the saw. I have just gotten into the hobby this summer and having a great time with it.

I would bolt it down. Using a foot switch has proven very valuable for myself and quite a few others on the forum. Most important thing about scrolling is to just have fun.

I've cleaned up my very old Dremel 1680 (which had very little use). And, want to build fretting and scrolling skills. I have a foot switch (off / on) that I can plug the Dremel into. Is that a helpful or harmful idea? Will this saw run ok like that? Is it better/worse for learning?
Also, I have it setting on a very stout table. Is it better to bolt it down or just let it sit on the table?
I'd rather not upgrade yet as I see there are a lot of folks using Dremel in the poll "What scroll saw are you using". Not sure what model(s) are in the pool. I could upgrade if that would help a lot in learning.
