I need some constructive input (besides "buy a new saw")
. I'll get to my question after I finish whinning about it. Actually I hoping my venting will provide sufficient info for some helpful responses. Now...let the whinning begin...
My Craftsman, 16" VS has started vibrating. It's about a 4.8 on the Richter Scale! I looked under the hood and noticed some fiber/rubber washers on the lower arm have deteriated and fallen out of position. Their position is a little hard to describe but I'll try (no exploded parts view available).
Coming off the motor shaft is a 'cam' of sorts with a vertical piece (VP) that results in the up/down motion. At the top of this vertical piece is where it is bolted to the lower arm. The upper part of the VP has a U-type channel that the lower arm sits in and is where the bushings are (were) located. Also, the holes for the bolt look enlarged but I think a steel washer will correct that.
I was in the midst of cutting a butterfly pattern (by Sue Mae) for a client who asked for 25 cuttings. I had cut 16 last week when the problem wasn't evidient. Today I was planning to finish the project when the problem reared its ugly head.
In order to continue cutting, I did install two rubber faucet washers hoping it would help. It did, but only marginally. I managed to get 4 more cut but will attempt no more until I get my dilema resolved. It's too hard to control the blank and the blade is wandering during the cut.

So, several questions:
1. Does it sound like the bushings is the whole problem? I'm not entirely sure it is.
2. Has anyone with this saw experienced the same problem?
3. If yes, how did you fix it?
I'm going to see if parts are available but the saw is about 5 or 6 years old. With the economy the way it is, I'll have a hard time justifying a new saw. Especially if I opt to upgrade to a DeWalt or something in a higher caliber of saw.
