Ok if we are going to think outside the box, what would you really like?
    Anything goes!

    Carl:

    This is just my guess:

Most collet systems that I know, the objective is to apply enough force to resist rotation counter forces. Drill and Lathes have less problem with forces in and out, just holding against counter rotation forces.

2nd, I know of only 2 SS blade chucks, and both use a lot of surface area on the blade to secure the blade. This would be more akin to the Jacob's taper chuck used in machine tools, than a collet.

3rd, Yes all the problems could be overcome, and without too much engineering.

    Nice drawing BTW

Thanks Bill, the collet slot would be flat yes.

As far as patents go they are a little out of my price range. Like I said as long as I get one I don't care who makes it.

I sure hope this is not offensive to anyone . Dick Cheney made me do it
If it is offensive, I will understand if it needs to be removed.

    BTW Carl;
That is one awsome looking design for a blade clamp.
Just one question . We think of a collet as having a round hole in it. With this design I would imagine the collet is just like a flat plate on either side to grip the blade ? ? ?
You should get a patent on it before some manufacturer jumps on the idea and takes all the credit for it.

    Hi Carl

I reckon it's a fine design but my engineering skills are on a par with Dick Cheney's shooting skills, so my opinion doesn't really count.

I'll send Paul Woodward a copy and ask for his (and/or his father's) opinion.

    A blade clamp idea

I am a firm believer that ideas are not much good if you do not share them.
That being said I am sure someone can make some money with this idea. I know it won't be me

Here is a blade clamp I have been working on. I do not have the expertise required to make it.

I hope Doug Woodward sees it or someone else with engineering background.
Gill sparked the idea with a self tensioning clamp that works with one lever.
All I ask, if someone makes one, and makes some money, make one for me too
