A puzzle observation.

We were at our local Wild Birds Unlimited store yesterday to get a new feeder.
I saw a nice box with a picture of a hummingbird on its side. Ends up it is a puzzle ~203 pieces selling for $70. The actual puzzle is about 10 x 10 based on the sample they had out.
It looked to have a Masonite backer and was most definitely laser cut.
What would a hand cut piece be worth?

Well I looked on Amazon and found a 222 pc hummingbird and flowers puzzle with random cut pieces with whimsy (figural) pieces. It was 11" x 11" and was laser cut in the USA. Their price was $49.95 with free Prime shipping.

So unfortunately I would think a custom hand cut (scroll saw) puzzle would probably not get anymore than either of the two.

First of all, I wouldn't do a 220 piece puzzle but if I did I would start at $95+. If it was done like Shawn did his, I would start at $195 or more. As Bruce says, you can always lower the price but not raise it.Speaking of Shawn, has anyone heard from him?

I think selling to the mass market would be a tough sell. I don't know what the actual going price for these would be in a venue that championed handmade items, but that is where we would get the best price I'm sure. $70 for laser cut seems way overpriced.

Any body that cuts puzzles can tell you there is a lot of time and work involved Depending on how intricate the pieces are people are getting $1 to $10 a piece for their puzzles.

Still doing Steve Goods dollar puzzles and have gotten it down to 1 hour to just cut the puzzle out and that does not include prepping it . Anyone with suggestions on a price for these?? If I use a 100 bill should I raise the price??
