  • "Joy!" Jigsaw Puzzle

Here's just a little layered puzzle I made from a few holiday cards. It is about 5x7", and was cut from 1/4" cherry. It probably has about 50 pieces or so.

The meaning of "Joy!" during the Christmas season has a very traditional sense, however these three youngsters perhaps have their own interpretation, as they peek inside a wonderful toy store.

The three children all make up the 2nd layer of the puzzle. It doesn't show off well in the photo, but when looked at, the kids seem to be coming out of the picture, as they stand in front of the window, imagining what they might get for Christmas.

The word "Joy" was cut out as a stand alone, fancy puzzle piece.

One of the fun things I sometimes like to do when I make a layered jigsaw puzzle, is to "hide" little surprises under the top layer. Here you can see that when the assembler looks under the top pieces which make up the children, they are each hiding a candy cane under their coats.

I hope all of my friends on the forum are having a wonderful Holiday season!

      Nicely done as usual.

Shawn when you get a chance after the rush, would you mind doing a tutorial for our beginners on how to do a stacked puzzle? I think they would really love it--- maybe even a challenge.

          Thanks, Mike and Bob!

Mike, I have a tutorial stickied on the top of this forum, which goes over a lot of how I cut these, but doing a "challenge" sounds like a lot of fun. I like your idea! After the holidays get settled, like you said, I'll see if I can put something together.

Shawn - the "joy" piece is a wonderful collection of color, just beautiful. Did you consider making the candy cane pieces the "connecting" pieces between the layers? It would have been hard to get them lined up, but I think that it would work out really nice.

I like the hidden pieces in there too.

                          Hi Shawn,

Thanks for sharing your incredible artwork, you are truly a master. The JOY title couldn't be more appropriate to me, I was released from the hospital last nite after undergoing a very complicated surgery last week and that was one of the best things that could have happened to me, my release was a little premature, but it had more to do with a state of mind thing than anything else. Hospitals are a great place to be when you need them, but it is a very depressing situtation. With plans for a full but slow recovery, we can't wait to meet you and Carter and the other gurus in Salem.

Since I am only allowed out of bed a few hours a day, I would like to take this opportunity to wish a MERRY CHRISTMAS to all my friends, find the JOY in everything.

By The Way Shawn, we really enjoyed the Honey Crisps this season.

                          BE WELL!

                            Thanks, Gang!

Rick, get better soon!!! I hope you recover quickly from your surgery, and have a chance to enjoy the holidays. We'll be at the Parley for sure, so I look forward to seeing you there, healthy and well.

....and you're right about the honeycrisps. They get better and better every year. We can still get some at our local Tops supermarket.....I suppose they are frozen at this point, but they're still really good. Our guinea pig has taken a liking to them as well, but since they are somewhat costly, hopefully she'll be mostly satisfied with her lettuce and hay, LOL.

                            Take care.
