  • A Portrait of my Parents

I have been working on a portrait of my parents for a while now. First in my head, then trying to make a pattern, then actually making it and finally beginning the cutting process.

The original was a photo of them taken at my niece's wedding in 2008. Both have since passed away (2010/2016) and I walk by their photo every day. Finally I am turning their picture into another piece of art.

You have a wonderful start, and the hardest part. You've got this!

This is a really nice piece and a great tribute. I really like the frame within a frame approach to the design.

                    Congrats on the progress.

Thank you for your kind words. The frame within frame concept comes from the photo this project is based on.

After 3 days of sanding, I believe it is finished, but I will sit on it a little bit, before I glue down.

Thank you very much! It is oiled now and hangs on the wall. I looked at my cookwood order and found that the inner frame is made from brazil nut wood.

I tried a house vac once for a dust collector. It was prone to clogging the lines and when I tried to put a cyclone can on it the vacuum collapsed the garbage can.

I found this pattern in Steves catalog and freehanded a vase form. This one may appeal to the folks that bought the butterfly vase.

Sorry took so long to answer. The brown vase I added butterfly instead of doing wood burning. Wanted to keep them so they would appeal to several people. I sold all of them to a flower shop....
